What could be better than gentle Spring sun shining through the curtains. After the Winter period this is the most important time, the bulbs are starting to
appear and everything needs to be spring-proofed. Dark colours away, it’s time
to make things nice & bright.
Having visited the best of the interiors trade shows at the start of the year
there seemed to be a stylish trend towards coastal chic. Make no mistake though,
this is no ‘kiss me quick makeover’ think luxurious beach clubs, pristine white
sands and azure sea for the inspiration to create your own ‘Hamptons Hideaway’.
Hamptons Beach style comes from the Hamptons Region of Long Island in New York.
Just think of the gorgeous home featured in the film ‘Something’s Gotta Give’
with Diane Keaton ( if you haven’t seen the film I highly recommend it, even if
just for the house!!)
Collections include lots of white, flax cream combined with soft blues, greys &
turquoise reminiscent of glistening pools. More classical blues are inspired by
the ocean. If you think blue is cold, think again!
To create the look at home keep things light, breezy & natural. Rustic flooring
can be washed for a sun bleached look. Linen upholstery looks natural and casual
and wicker furniture, either dark or painted white, looks chic. Soft furnishings
in cottons are fresh and embroidery adds a touch of opulence.
Balance your style by achieving the ideal mix of clean & contemporary pieces,
such as glass lamps, with rustic, imperfect touches, like a vintage French
dining table. Incorporate natural elements and bring the outdoors inside by
using plants which mimic the plant life at the beach and add colour. Finally
driftwood pieces make great statement centrepieces.
So if you’re dreaming of calm & breezy, casual elegance & easy style – this
season is just for you.
